Grading Information
Students are required to read all assigned chapters from their
texts, and any additional materials as assigned. In addition
to the readings, participation in discussions will prepare
students for course assignments.
This
course requires students to write a broad range of documents,
including emails, memos, letters, proposals, resumes, presentations,
and the various documents that comprise a business or technical
plan. Assignments will be graded according to the weights
below:

Course Assignments
The following
assignments are designed to foster your competency (if not
mastery) of certain business and technical communication skills:
Reading Quizzes
There
will be a total of four (4) reading quizzes throughout the
semester. The quizzes are designed to assess your reading
comprehension skills as well as your knowledge of the information
in your assigned readings.
IM, Email, Memo, Letters & Resume
Students
will familiarize themselves with internal and external forms
of written communication. Students will send an instant message,
write a WebCT email, a memo, and two 1- to 2-page letters.
They will also develop a resume
(of 1 to 2 pages) for submission with the proposal.
Proposal
Students
will draft a 3- to 5-page proposal (with outline) of their
business or technical plan.
Plan or Report Assignments
Students
will submit four 2- to 4-page documents which provide any
number of functions in a business or technical plan.
Slide Presentation
Students
will submit a Powerpoint slide presentation of their business
or technical plan idea--the purpose of which is to inform
the audience and/or to drive investment interest.
Project Document with Summary
(Final Version)
A 15-
to 25-page business or technical plan, report, etc. is due
at the end of the term.
Discussion and Participation
Students
are required to participate in all discussions and presentations.
